Ena Pena is a Registered Marriage and Family Therapist Intern (IMT2789). She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Florida Atlantic University and a Master of Science degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Nova Southeastern University. Ena is fluent in both English and Spanish. She is also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR).
She has taken a keen interest in helping children, teens and adults deal with grief and loss including having a miscarriage which is often overlooked and not considered a painful loss. Fathers who have miscarried are also under a lot of pressure because they are usually “holding down the fort for mom” and feel that they cannot show their emotions.
Ena has been married for over 15 years and has three children including her daughter who has Down Syndrome. She is therefore highly attentive to the challenges facing children who have special needs siblings. Ena provides Family Therapy and has experience with the challenges of blended families and step-parenting.
Ena is currently facilitating groups for individuals with substance abuse addiction and mental health conditions at a local drug rehabilitation center which enhances her experience with dual diagnosis. Group Therapy in different topics is certainly one of her passions and she calls it the place where “magic” happens. Especially, when it comes to addiction groups, where members support each other while they learn coping skills to manage life in sobriety.
Ena Pena provides Couples Counseling. Ena also has experience in pre-marital counseling and spiritual counseling when requested. She is certified in SYMBIS (Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts) Premarital Counseling.
Interning with the homeless population at Broward Outreach Center gave Ena the experience to help individuals and families get back on their feet while dealing with housing challenges, addiction and mental health disorders. Her compassionate and non-judgmental approach has prepared her for empowering individuals in crisis and high conflict situations while they become high functioning individuals in the community.
Ena’s favorite model is Narrative Therapy yet she has the ability to fit her clients with the best therapy approach according to their needs including Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
Ena is a board member of the South Broward/North Dade chapter of CHADD and is also a proud member of the Broward Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (BAMFT).
