    Dr. Alena Prikhidko, LMFT received her Doctorate of Philosophy from the University of Florida in 2018. Currently, she is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the State of Florida (MT4082). She also earned her Master’s (2001) as well as her Ph.D (2006) of Social Psychology from Lomonosov Moscow State University. Alena is a bilingual therapist, she speaks English and Russian and has a culturally sensitive approach to counseling. Alena has experience in working with people from all over the world. Dr. Prikhidko is a Professor at Florida International University.

    She has intensive training in Family Systems, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), as well as Traumatic Incident Reduction (TIR). She is also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR). Over the years she has dedicated her professional career to helping adults, mothers, and children navigate the challenges of mental health issues, family dynamics, as well as adjustment and developmental disorders. She conducts counseling research as a professor, and has written and published multiple papers on emotion regulation.

    As a therapist, Alena has extensive experience working with adults, childrencouplesfamilies and groups providing therapy and psychoeducation on emotion regulation of anger, anxiety and guilt. She is intensively trained in working with children and adults who deal with Psychological Trauma, being aware that often unhealed trauma leads to mental health problems.

    Alena specializes in childhood and adult Anger issues, Anxiety Disorders, Postpartum Counseling, Conduct Disorder, Depression, Trauma and Borderline Personality Disorder. Her doctorates in Social Psychology and Marriage and Family Therapy allow her to provide evidence-based treatment to those in need. She practices Play Therapy, Theraplay and Bowen approach to Family therapy. Alena received intensive training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy for individuals and Families, which allows her not only to work with individuals, but also provide effective group counseling for Parents and Adolescents, as well as Couples who deal
    with emotion dysregulation and strive to make their lives worth living.

    Her passion is working with anger and anxiety in parents and children. When she meets with parents, they are often having trouble with their child’s temper tantrums (in addition to struggling to manage their own anger issues). She has found that in these situations that when parents make visible changes in their behavior, children typically mirror those changes. Therefore, it’s of utmost importance to work with children and parents together whenever possible.

    Additionally, Alena has extensive experience in working with people who deal with crisis, she worked in one of the best Crisis centers in the USA that specializes in helping people with suicidal ideation that is common for people who have been diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder. She understands that every situation is different, thus, she embraces a client-oriented approach to healing, creating a treatment strategy that speaks to her clients.

    Alena has been married for 10 years and has a son. In her free time she enjoys biking with her family, watching movies, being at the ocean, reading and exploring local cuisine.
